Satguru Ravidas Ji’s Begum Pura concept – to present a model of such an independent state against the contemporary inappropriate, incompetent, unequal, unjust, and full of extreme fears, social, economic, political and religious system, in which there will be democracy in the true sense instead of monopolistic, feudal rule.

bēgampurā sahar kō nāu.

Meaning of BegumpuraSahar:-

The word “BegampuraSahar” is mentioned in the universal great word “BegampuraSaharKoNau” of Gauri Rag of Sri Guru RavidasJi. This word is recorded on page 345 of DhanDhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The composition period of the word is between 1300 and 1400 AD. The word is “Begum PuraSahar” Begum means be-gam means free from sorrow i.e. full of joy and Pura means city or place to live. Sahar means world homeland.

Overall meaning :– World homeland whose name is Begampura, which is full of supreme joy. The person of this homeland is free from all kinds of sorrows like social, moral, educational, religious etc. and is also free from worry and anxiety. The meaning of this holy word and the underlying thought of the word Vidhan Advocate Professor Lal Singh explains it in his book “SatikBani Sri Guru RavidasJi and Tat-Sidhant” as follows.

Nature of Gauri Rag of SABAD {bēgampurāsaharkōnāu.} :–
Every word of stanza has a principle embedded in itself. This has been confirmed by the Raga Nirnayak Committee of renowned Indian musicians:- “Gauri is a raga of serious nature. The soul, which is suffering, seeks grace and searches for itself, therefore in this raga, Guru Sahib has recited Gurbani on serious subjects like mind, intellect, soul, death, salvation etc.’ Book:- Rag NaadShabadSohne Page- 52

Meaning of the word (Explanation){bēgampurāsaharkōnāu.}:-

The universal nation, whose name is Begampura, is filled with supreme bliss. The human being of this nation is free from all kinds of sufferings—social, moral, educational, religious, etc.—and also free from worry and anxiety. The human of this world is mentally free. Man has no anxiety of paying taxes, nor is any king troubled with the thought of paying tribute (ikhrāj) to another king. That is, in this sovereignty (apart from the Eternal Sovereign) there is no other king at all. This is the end of the feudal age.
Therefore no one has landed or private property. The citizen here is economically free. This is the age of socialist democracy. Thus, there is no fear of the tyranny of rulers, and no mutual enmity or conflict. The citizen of this nation is fearless and without enmity, even to the extent that, having control over desires, there is no fear of any kind of decline. In this way, the citizen here is politically free. As a result, the universal nation is from all sides filled with supreme bliss.||1||

O my brother! Now I am a citizen of such a noble nation, where there is every kind, in every way, of supreme happiness and eternal bliss. Thus this is the universal humanist nation where the relationship between sovereign and subjects is one of eternal happiness, bliss, and love.||1|| Pause||

This is a stable, eternal and boundless sovereignty. This spiritual universal nation has always been renowned. Its citizens are not of second or third status; they have equal rights in every way and in every sphere They are full of moral and spiritual power, endowed with wisdom and patience, content in every respect. Thus, there is no tyranny here. This world-government is born from justice, equality and love . ||2||

The citizens of Begampura wander everywhere in chosen joy. They have the freedom to move about .Even the intimate palaces do not bar them. That is, the subjects are aware of every secret of the sovereign. The mutual relation of sovereign and subjects rests upon deep trust and love. The inhabitants of this nation, Chamar Ravidas proclaims as ‘Khalsa’ That whoever is a citizen of this universal nation is indeed our friend. That is, the entire world-society is bound in friendship and the foundation of world-brotherhood is only and only mutual love.||3||

This alone is the foundation of the world government or the universal Khalsa rule, and this alone is ‘Begampura’

The inner conceptual framework of the hymn:-

In this hymn, all religions—especially Hinduism—and all political systems’ old institutions are rejected. These institutions belong to the past.In their place, new arrangements have been established. With the setting up of these new arrangements, the old institutions of the past became automatically nullified.
Thus, in the first two lines of stanza no. 1, liberation from social, religious, moral, and educational sufferings is mentioned. In the later two lines of the stanza, liberation from economic, political, and other desires is mentioned.Behind this stanza lies the end of the cruelties of religions. In this stanza, man is mentally free.By ending feudalism and abolishing the right to landed and private property, a socialist democracy has been established.
Therefore, the citizen of this universal nation is fearless and without enmity, economically and politically free, and hence filled with supreme bliss from all sides. This is the new constitution of the world government.
In the ‘Rahau’ Guru RavidasJi emphasizes and affirms that he is a citizen of this noble nation. In this way, he establishes the reality of the aforesaid universal nation. The relation of the sovereign of this humanist nation is one of eternal love. The constitution of the world government created in stanza no. 1 is of the universal nation of Guru RavidasJi, where he dwells.
In stanza No 2, He says about the citizen of this future, stable, Unchangeable, limitless and eternal Kingdom that the citizens of this homeland are the Inhabitants of the spiritual homeland, they are spiritually rich and materially patient, content and satisfied so the citizens of the spiritual homeland are also moral and full of spiritual powers.

In stanza No 3, GuruRavidasJi discuss the relationship between the eternal king and his Citizens, saying that every citizen should always have freedom to meet one’s King without any hindrance, there is freedom to go to every corner of the country(freedom of movement)There is freedom to go every where in the Kinges palace. This is a symbol of the very close bond between the King and the citizen This bond is based on true love Similarly, due to love and bond between the citizen with each other, the brotherhood born of love is automatically created in this way, the relationship of the world brotherhood is based on mutual love. This is the same love that made Guru Ravidas a holy khalsa even while being a Chamar. Only one can be A friend of this Guru Ravidas, who is a citizen of this world Kalsha homeland.
So Guru Ravidassji, while creating the socialist, democratic ideology of the supremely lissfulBegampura – Vatan, has made spiritualism the basis of political, economic social moral etc. principles. The basic basis of spiritualism is moral and spiritual elevation, the basic pillars of which are Niyam (Dom Na SemEk So Aahi) Sabar, Santokh (Mamur), Sat (SadaPatsahi) Daaya (Na Khata = kindness) In this way, the citizen of the Vishwa-Vatan is a complete man in every respect, whose construction is according to the socialist democratic ideology.
This word is the most importantly word among the words created in “Gauri Rag”. It has succeeded in creating the nature of the Rag with great seriousness. Therefore, this word is a Prime example of this Rag. The subject of this word is extremely serious and according to the famous music of scholars of India,” Gauri is a Rag of serious nature.”
